PREPARATION
To obtain an optimal exam, it is VERY important that you follow these instructions
You must purchase at the pharmacy:
- one (1) bottle of GOLYTELY (4 litres)
- three (3) tablets of DULCOLAX (5 mg each)
You must also obtain at Varad Radiology Clinic:
- two (2) small bottles of Barium 2% oral 450 ml (Smoothies)
A. PREPARATION THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAMINATION
Liquid Diet:
You must communicate with your treating physician for recommendations regarding the quantity of liquids you are allowed to take.
You are allowed to take the following items:
- fruit juice (without pulp)
- clear broth of consommé
- jello
- tea or coffee (sugar but no milk)
- light soft drinks
- NO MILK PRODUCTS ARE ALLOWED
To color any remaining feces still within the colon, drink 300 ml of Barium at each meal (breakfast, lunch, supper).
Laxatives are to be taken at:
- 2:00 pm – drink 8 oz of GOLYTELY every 15 minutes until container is empty
- 8:00 pm – take three (3) tablets of DULCOLAX
B. PREPARATION SAME DAY OF THE EXAM
- You must be fasting (nothing to eat or drink) until the time of examination.
- At all times, continue to take your regular medications by swallowing your pills with just enough water (with the exception of insulin or oral hypoglycemics).
